“Bellissimo” The South East Provides a Perfect Work/Life Balance
Born in beautiful Tuscany in a city called Carrara made famous by its natural resource of white marble, Gabriele Fangano today finds himself happily living and working in Waterford City. Anxious for a new challenge Gabriele a qualified quantity surveyor and his fiancé Simona took the decision in early 2017 to move to Ireland. Up to this point Gabriele had been working in his father’s marble and natural stone business but in his own words “the travel bug took hold”.
Having decided Ireland was the destination of choice next the couple set about deciding where would be a good location to live and work. There was a couple of factors Gabriele considered “Accommodation; after looking at some of the rental prices in Dublin, Galway and Cork we got a little bit of a shock to be honest, we wanted affordable high quality accommodation in a nice location. Work/Life Balance; im an ambitious guy who loves to be challenged in my work life but also I like the adrenaline rush of pushing the limits in my personal life, Good Connectivity; Family is really important to Simona and I, we wanted to live in a place where we could easily reach a major airport to travel home and vice versa our family could come to stay with us”
Taking all of these factors into account Gabriele & Simona quickly identified the South East and Waterford City in particular as an ideal location. In May 2017 the pair moved into their new home in the Ballygunner area of Waterford city.
Gabriele started work soon after as a CNC operator with Keltech. The role was challenging at first but owing to his experience he quickly developed a high skills base and was identified by Keltech as an ideal candidate for the promotions programme. After conducting a personal development review Keltech placed Gabriele on a highly regarded part time engineering programme based in Carlow IT. Now Gabriele could continue to earn his weekly wage but at the same time develop himself through this night programme, another great example of the “learn while you earn” ethos driven by Keltech.
In early 2018 due to continued company growth a further position became available in the engineering department at Keltech. When such positions arise in Keltech the protocol is simple “look internally first”. Gabriele was interviewed for the position and after proving his more than adequate aptitude although he had yet to complete his engineering programme, he started in the role of Quote Engineer soon afterwards.
In a short few months Gabriele’s ambition and drive had seen him promoted, work life was going well. Gabriele having now settled in Waterford began looking for ways to satisfy his inner adrenaline junky self in the South East! “I always had an interest in learning how to fly but never quiet got around to it” Gabriele continues. Gabriele started to enquire and soon after was taking off from Waterford Airport having arranged private lessons. “im really enjoying it, what a buzz! The scenery around the South East coast is phenomenal, this summer with the excellent weather we had it was just unreal, blue skys and that fantastic coastline, what a hidden gem the South East is.”
Although Gabriele and Simona have settled now in the South East their bond with home remains strong. “ Recently we went home for a 3 week break, it was great to catch back up with all the family, it was so easy to hop in the car and onto the motorway straight to Dublin Airport. Our families love it over here to; the scenery, the buzz of Waterford City; I only wish they could see how magnificent it is now with the Winterval festival in full flight!”
As the year draws to a close Gabriele reflects on the last 18 months. “ We have been incredibly lucky to have chosen the South East and Waterford as a place to live and work. Keltech is a fast-paced exciting environment and im loving every minute of it. It’s so refreshing to find a company whom values its employees and is truly interested in their personal development”.
